General The Officers and members of the Civil Service Bowling Association Northern Ireland would like to invite all our fellow members of the Civil Service Bowling Association to take part in the 2012 CSSC Championships and Tournament. We are delighted that this event is returning to Belfast and will take place from Sunday 1st July 2012 to Friday 6th July 2012.

This is a particularly exciting time for us to have Tournament with us in Belfast as this year marks CSBANI’s 50th Anniversary.

The Championship and Tournament will be based at the N.I.C.S. Bowling Club which is situated in the picturesque Stormont Estate.

Belmont Bowling Club which is within 2 miles of the main venue will once again host the Limited Pairs and Plate Competitions.

The Sunday Evening Reception, Council Meeting, AGM and the Annual Dinner will be held in the Pavilion, Stormont Estate.

We have included a proposed itinerary of activities for your consideration. We have included useful information on the venues for those CSBA Members, their wives and or partners etc. who may be interested in visiting our vibrant and ever changing Capital City.

We cordially invite you to consider attending this event where we trust you will be able to renew old acquaintances and better still, make new friends. The usual mix of Championships, Limited Pairs, Evening Friendlies and Coach Tours has been planned for your enjoyment. A friendly "Irish" welcome will await you and we are sure you will have an enjoyable stay in the Province.

John Mooney, President CSBANI 2012

Greens NICS Bowling Club, Stormont

The main venue will once again be the Northern Ireland Civil Service Green which is part of the Pavilion complex and sited within the grounds of the Stormont Estate. The Estate located 4 miles east of Belfast City centre, is a public park which provides an awesome setting for one of Northern Ireland's most iconic landmarks, Parliament Buildings. It is a great place for a bracing walk along its marked paths which afford spectacular views across Belfast and take you right to the front door of the Parliament Building. In recent years the grounds have provided a spectacular setting for concerts by Elton John, Pavarotti and Rod Stewart.

As well as the bowling facilities the Pavilion complex will be our venue for the Council Meetings, AGM and Annual Dinner. The Pavilion, offers amenities including an excellent catering service and lounge bar. The recent refurbishment of the Pavilion complex has provided all the services and comfort demanded by today's discerning members and visitors, and sits comfortably alongside the excellent sports facilities. Add to this the setting on the magnificent Stormont Estate, and you have a unique venue.

Belmont Bowling Club

Once again we are indebted to the Belmont Bowling Club for the use of their facilities for the Limited Pairs Competition. The club is affiliated to the Northern Ireland Private Greens Bowling League and the Irish Bowling Association. The Belmont complex which is approximately 2 miles from the Stormont venue is no stranger to the hosting of major events. In the past this has included BIBC International Series, Irish national Finals and various Association Finals.

Tours CSBANI have taken advice and guidance from some of the wives of members and have arranged a number of trips which will proving interesting and entertaining for those visitors attending them. The provisional itinary includes:

Accommodation Hotels in and around Belfast:

Two websites recommended by our committee for accommodation are www.belfastcityairporthotels.com and the Tourist Board's www.discovernorthernireland.com. These give various options and tourists can pick their accommodation to suit their own pocket.

Hotels that have been popular in the past are the Strangford Arms in Newtownards (028 91814141)
This hotel is approximately 6 miles from the Tournament venue but on a very direct route. Buses to Belfast stop directly outside the premises and the journey to the tournament venue is approximately 20 minutes (note early morning buses will be busy)
The Strangford Arms will charge £55 for a single room and £65 for a twin/double room.

The Stormont Hotel (028 90651066) has also proven popular previously.
The Stormont will charge £65 (was £70) for a single room and £85 (was £90) for a twin/double room. They also offer a 3-course dinner for £18.

Our Accommodation Committee also talked to Melanie at the Park Avenue Hotel. She advised me that the price for a single room would start from £59 and for a twin/double room would start from £79. Melanie can be contacted on 028 90656520 or by email at melanie@parkavenuehotel.co.uk

All 3 hotels emphasised that the sooner you booked the cheaper the prices are and like the airlines, the cost will rise nearer the time of the event. Discounts would be available if group bookings are made so one suggestion might be for each individual National Association to co-ordinate rooms for their own Members.

    Guest Houses B&B -

If you are planning to attend Tournament and have access to your own transport, you may well prefer to consider B&B accommodation. Details on this type of accommodation in the Greater Belfast Area can be obtained from these useful sites from the Northern Ireland Tourist Board:

    Belfast Welcome Centre - 028 90246609 or email info@belfastvisitor.com

    Accommodation section: http://www.discovernorthernireland.com/accomfinder/

    Brochures ready for download: http://www.discovernorthernireland.com/information/brochures.aspx
